US Sales Tax – July 2024 Update
Changes to registration requirements
July marks the start of the new fiscal year for most US states. Here, we’ve provided a list of some of the most important updates which might affect your business in terms of registration, and selling in the US.
Indiana
The economic nexus rules have been modified to remove the transaction threshold (previously 200 sales, regardless of value).
North Carolina
The economic nexus rules have been modified to remove the transaction threshold (previously 200 sales, regardless of value).
Wyoming
The economic nexus rules have been modified to remove the transaction threshold (previously 200 sales, regardless of value).
For all three states (Indiana, North Carolina, Wyoming), the updated economic nexus rules now only require Sales Tax registration after reaching $100,000 in sales. This includes both direct sales and marketplace facilitated sales.
Sales Tax holidays
Certain states have implemented Sales Tax holiday policies, which means that certain categories of goods and/or services may be exempt from Sales Tax during the specified holiday period.
Your business will still need to register for Sales Tax in each respective state if it meets the physical and/or economic nexus thresholds (where applicable).
As of July 2024, the following states/territories have announced their respective Sales Tax holidays:
Alabama
‘Back-to-school’ holiday, 19-21 July 2024
